“What does He let you do there?” Mark asked.
“I get to keep track of all the praises and petitions,” she said with a shy smile.
“It must be a really big job. Those people who send petitions and praises are too many to count, so how do you keep track?”
“The Lord has a really wonderful system. As He listens to each one, He records it and gently lets me read over his shoulder. Then, we place them in his pockets.”
“I didn’t know the Lord had pockets.” Mark seemed surprised.
“Oh, yes. He keeps all the requests and prayers of thanks close to His Heart.” Jenny replied. He has an especially deep pocket for the prayers of thanks and, it seems, that pocket never does get filled up.”
“So many of these people don’t know how lucky they are,” Mark remarked rather testily. “They have a God who listens and answers their petitions as only He can do, and still they…”
“Jenny, are you ready?” The Lord said as He opened the door to the throne room. “Time to see what my children will give thanks for today.”
“See you later, Mark.” The Lord and Jenny said in chorus.
As the petitions came pouring in fast and furiously, Jenny struggled to keep up with the flow of requests. The pocket that was to hold the thankful prayers remained empty. The Lord interrupted Jenny’s thoughts, “I know, I know no thanks so far, but soon their eyes will be open to my beauty and power, and the praise will come pouring in.”
Jenny hoped so, but she had her doubts. Finally, a prayer of thanks came floating in on a gentle breeze. Jenny read, and, as she read, her heart stirred within her.
Thank you, Lord for my new life
For only you can give the gifts that make me whole again.
Only you can dig deep within me, find the jewel you fashioned before time began,
And polish and share it with everyone we meet.
Thank you Lord for this new life.
Thank you for reminding me that you make me shine like the stars.
Thank you for your Glory that I am able to share with everyone I meet.
Thank you for the real possibility that I can touch others with your love and grace.
Thank you Lord that life is eternal.
Thank you Lord that there are things that matter.
Thank you Lord that you love me enough to redeem me, and
Thank you Lord for Who You Are.
Jenny took the prayer, gently tucking it into the deep pocket closest to the Lord’s Heart, and He smiled.
