It was difficult to take the step. The responsibility upon my shoulders was just a little overwhelming. I was one of the priests elected to carry the Ark of the Covenant. Joshua told us this morning to be ready to move the Ark of the Covenant. I dressed quickly in my priestly garments. Every tassel was in place. I waited. I could not eat anything.
It had been a long journey. My father had died in the desert many years ago. I have trained as a priest in the family of Levi. My cousins were with me today. We were to take the Ark of the Covenant across the Jordan. The Lord had told Joshua to enter the Promised Land. I have butterflies.
We lifted the Ark of the Covenant upon our shoulders making our way slowly to the Jordan River. There Joshua stood on the bank. He gave the order to move into the river.
It was difficult to take the step. I moved slowly into the river. The water was cold rushing around my ankles. Sweat covered my forehead as I steadied the pole on my shoulder. This is the Ark of my God. I am knee deep into the river.
Then suddenly I am standing on dry land. Praises flow quickly from my lips. This is what it must have been like forty years ago when the sea parted I thought. I am in awe of God’s mighty power.
“Praise God Almighty!” said the people as they passed by on a dry riverbed.
