The human quest for fulfillment is never-ending. Our thirst for satisfaction and contentment unquenchable. Satan and the world come at us from all angles, suggesting what we need to be successful is more things, more money, more self-gratification. At the end of the day, we find ourselves frazzled and frustrated, discontent with our work, our family, ourselves. It’s never enough and we are left feeling empty and alone.
Our pursuit of fulfillment can only be realized when we allow ourselves to rest in Jesus. Paul told the Colossians, “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. (Colossians 2:8-10, NLT)
When we asked Jesus into our hearts, we became united to the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, Ruler of everything in the universe! Let us find fulfillment in our relationship with Him. We can channel the effort that we used to use to pursue worldly success into pursuing a close and intimate walk with Christ. Then we will begin to experience the restful sigh of contentment in our spirits.
Dear Lord, help me to learn more of you so that I can rest in you. I know, Lord, that my life is hid in you and you are the author of my joy and happiness. May it be done according to your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
