While you find the answer, I would like to vent out for a while.
I am very angry. I am hesitant about reading the news these days. Why is that? To think that the world has enough problems already, we are now faced with numerous cases of shootings with the perpetrators’ killing themselves when they are through. The recent one at the YouTube headquarters got me thinking. What is going on, I thought to myself. The human life is no longer valued. How did we get to this point where we feel we can take our own lives and the lives of others at will? Previously, I was very passive about the situation. My comments always indicated that there was something wrong with people these days and that the gun laws were not helping. But that is all I did, comment and forget about it. However, a couple of days ago, thinking about it got me annoyed.
We can talk about problems with the leadership, laws and policies, security and generally about there being something wrong with people. But there is something deeper than all these. And it has nothing to do with technology, something we have grown to think will be the solution to all our problems. Let’s try to focus on the individuals causing harm to themselves and others for a moment. These people are not just structures made up of bones and flesh. They are souls, who are bound to exist after death either in hell or in heaven. Souls that would perish without Jesus.
At this point, let's try to view the situation through God's eyes and understand God’s heart for them. They and all others thinking of repeating this act are people whom Christ died for. However, the enemy is bent on ensuring that don’t partake in the grace we enjoy. The enemy would do anything even if it means blowing up the issues they face into unimaginable proportions, tormenting them with their pasts or the wrongs done to them, planting the seed of anger and bitterness in their hearts, getting them overly depressed until he has convinced them that their lives and others are worthless.
Remember we are not fighting against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12). There is a prince of this world (John 14:30) and thus the battle is more spiritual than physical. Though there are people physically in authority, they are not the ones ruling. So, let's focus on the spiritual. Realising all the enemy is doing to cause these people to perish annoyed me. But I was going to stay angry when something can be done.
As children of God, we are to quit complaining and go down on our knees and start interceding for these people and the nation. We are a kingdom of priests, sitting in heavenly places with the victorious King thus we can rule the world and change affairs through prayer. Elijah did it to overthrow lesser gods (1 Kings 17:1, 18), the early church did to get peter out (Acts 12: 1-11). They were mere men but through prayer, they changed situations. The enemy will keep running affairs if we don’t rise and pray. With our prayers being directed by the HolySpirit in accordance with the word of God.
Jesus has already defeated the enemy thus we will be visiting from victory. The Bible admonishes us to pray for all men and those in authority that we have a quiet and good life (1 Timothy 2:1-4). If this is not happening in the nation and in the lives of people, then we have a case to stand on. I can’t do this by myself, I pray that the Lord will help you see the situation through His eyes. I plead with you to go down on your knees with me to intercede for the lives of those who have been held captive. Let’s pray that God who desires that they are saved (1 Timothy 2:4) will cause them to come to the knowledge of the truth which will set them free from the enemy and their souls preserved for eternity.
You are the answer to the riddle, child of God. Let’s avail ourselves and allow God to change the cause of events (1 Chronicles 7:14). We are His representatives on earth and He will rule over situations through us.
