Just a little slumber, just a little folding of the arms,
Just a little nap this one time surely can’t do any harm?
Things have been so stressful here, I need a teeny little rest
Then when I wake up again, I’ll be performing at my best.
If even You rested after the Creation, surely it’s not wrong
If I put my feet up just this once, this journey’s been so long
There’s always tomorrow; feels like all work and no play;
And Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow for each day
Has enough troubles of its own,” and even He slept
For a short while in the boat one day, so if He kept
A snooze as part of His daily routine; surely you would not refuse
Me forty winks to recharge my batteries, would you Father? –
I know I’ll be more ready to take the world on later, rather
I’ll be better able to obey Your prompting, honestly!
I know You’re not impressed with all man’s striving endlessly
So I’ll just be still here and wait on You to send Your blessing
Unless You build the house, the labourers labour in vain and I’m confessing
That I don’t want to kill myself toiling all the days You send me, that’s why
I’ll eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow I may die.
