Topic: Cat and Dog (09/04/14)
 Among all the manifold innumerable splendors of God's creativity that I have experienced, the most awesome one is of the birthing process. We humans call it labor. It is work and it is productive.

Cats and dogs give birth. They do not have midwives nor do they have textbooks or analgesics, yet they know instinctively what to do because `God made them so'. With the minimum of fuss or mess animals deliver five, six or more babies. Our cat delivered five kittens. She chose an isolated place which was our spare bathroom, and did the job very well.

My mind leaps back to a day twenty four years ago. After three days of increasingly grueling labor characterized by shuddering contracting uterine and back pain, I arrived at the point of exhaustion. The epidural anesthetic had failed. I remember that I had an unbearably urgent and instinctive desire to eject the very large object that lay twisting and turning within me.


The midwives were very experienced, caring and empathetic. They were positioned at various strategic places around me and my `bed'. On my left sat my glassy eyed husband trying to smile and say the right things; and on my right a very kind encouraging `coach' midwife whom I knew personally. I was a trained midwife and I knew intellectually what was going on but experientially I was a complete novice.

The production of my first born child, a daughter, was unforgettable. It was full of agony and joy.

I am amazed and I wonder about women in primitive settings who without training and sometimes alone go through labor and deliver babies. Female animals also perform the birthing ritual unaided, untrained and alone.

What great comparisons between mankind and animals, the privileged and the less privileged?

A very nice personal story using cats and dogs to give some comparison.

I liked it.

One other comparison I seem to remember was when we first brought our "little ones" out to their first public showing, it was almost like a mother cat or dog "grinning" as they showed off their litter.

This is an interesting story. I liked how you showed the cat's birth process. I think there is nothing more miraculous than the miracle of birth. Nice job
