TITLE: Oscar and Charlie | Previous Challenge Entry

Oscar pounced down from the window sill and with a terrifying hiss continued his rant. “I remember the days when I had it made, just me and the Mrs., when she wasn’t a Mrs., cuddling on the couch or playing with my toys. Speaking of toys, Charlie, have you noticed, mine have gone down considerably since you came along?”
“Then she had to go and fall in love, wasn’t I enough-cute, furry and adorable? Now I ask you, Charlie, did they for one minute take into consideration that cats and dogs don’t get along?”
Charlie grabbed his favorite shoe and settled in. It wasn’t the first time Charlie had heard Oscar go on about the sufferings he has endured when their two masters tied the knot and became one happy family, well except for Oscar.
Oscar leapt to the top of the bookcase where he did most of his daily diatribe. “Can you believe they want yet another addition to this already over populated home? You know the Mr. and Mrs. have been talking for the longest time about an African Grey. Do you know what that is Charlie? It’s a bird, one that squawks all day and not to mention feathers everywhere. I’m telling you Charlie, we’re turning into a zoo. Why not fish, fish just swim around all day and say nothing.”
Charlie tossed his shoe to the side, “Oscar, relax, you’re getting yourself all worked up. We’ve become good friends, well maybe not good but we do all right. Look on the bight side, at least the bird will be in a cage and can’t steal our food or toys.”
“That’s just like you Charlie, always looking on the bright side.” “I’m a Golden we always look on the bright side” said Charlie. “Oscar there is enough love from the Mr. and Mrs. for all of us.”
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll see,” said Oscar.
Both, Oscar and Charlie were startled as they heard the car. They jumped on the window sill with nervous anticipation to see this very special bird. As the Mr. and Mrs. exited the car, Oscar knew immediately that something was not right. It was a funny looking cage for a bird, and why was there a pink blanket over the top?
Oscar realized it first, oh no, it’s a baby; a baby girl has come to live with us. “Charlie, we might as well pack our bags, this is far more serious than a bird.” But Charlie just wagged his tail more erratically, barking and running to meet all of them at the door, bidding Oscar to join him. “Come on, Oscar, you’re too intense.”
Oscar didn’t move, he sat aloof on the window sill, staring straight ahead. He felt his days were numbered. He was already pegged not being a team player.
The door slowly opened and the Mrs. took the funny looking cage and sat it on the floor. Knowing there might be some resistance from Oscar, she walked over to the window and scooped Oscar in her arms and the Mr. grabbed Charlie and together they un-wrapped the pink blanket. All the while telling Oscar and Charlie how much they loved them and how great it was for the baby to have them to protect her.
The baby was smiling and kicking her feet when suddenly she made a face that looked like something out of a horror movie and an odor that had Charlie and Oscar running for the doggie door. Outside they went, catching their breath. “Whoa, what was that,” Oscar said. Charlie now being the observant one told Oscar, “babies don’t do their business outside or in a litter box, they take care of business right in their clothes, I think they call it a diaper.” “Oh, noooooooooooo,” said Oscar, “how uncivilized.”
Charlie put his paw on his buddy and whispered, “it’s going to be ok, Oscar, and you know why? Because there’s enough love for all of us. Besides, babies love to throw their food and we’ll be there to help clean it up.”
Oscar gave a slow purr, “there you go again Charlie, always looking on the bright side.”

I especially liked the Bible verse as it was applied at the end.
You seem to know cats and dogs.
The only time I struggled was with the dialog. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was speaking. Remember to start a new paragraph each time someone different speaks or thinks.
You definitely covered the topic in an interesting way. I also liked the way you developed the characters. Maybe next time go even farther and show the actions. Have the cat twitch his tail or the dog sniff. If you use them after dialog, it'll show who is speaking while creating a picture for the reader and develop the characters even more. Your ending was sweet and then hysterical. I totally laughed at it. I also enjoyed the message of looking at the bright side.
