With what finances we had, my husband and I set off on our new adventure. I was in my first trimester when we arrived at our new home and experienced rough morning sickness. We decided that it would be best if I waited until the start of my second trimester to search for a job. Since my husband’s new job paid fairly well, we knew we would be covered financially until I started work. That was the plan. After about two weeks of working, my husband and his other co-workers were not even working forty hours a week due to slow times. Even though I had already been searching for work and even had a few interviews I still had not received an offer that would be beneficial for our household. I finally accepted a job, but the start date was a month away and our finances were quickly dwindling.
Then my husband received an email from his boss asking if he could stop by the office for a moment on his day off. That’s when my husband received the news that he was being laid off. While being laid off was a shock and disappointment for both of us, the timing of it could not have been worse. His last two paychecks were just enough to cover our car note, leaving no money for food, gas, or bills. Our family and friends didn’t have much financially and most were going through their own financial troubles. We turned to the state’s social services for help. All praise to the Lord, we were able to receive some help but we were still struggling in every way possible.
I must admit, I’ve always been a positive person, but being pregnant in an unfamiliar area with no finances was making it tough. I knew that it was tougher on my husband and that I had to be strong not only for him, but for our little baby growing inside of me. Even though my faith had been weakened, I knew we were both being tested and I turned towards God in prayer. With no milk, eggs, bread, or peanut butter....all of which had been staples since the job loss and only remained staples because my sister and her husband sent us what they could to help, we were down to eating pasta daily. After reading the scripture in Psalm, I thanked God for the humility that we were going through because I knew that he was only strengthening our character to receive future blessings. I knew I had to trust in the Lord. Soon after, my husband and I went to check the mail. As I pulled the mail from the box, an envelope from my best friend back home fell out. The envelope contained a letter and a check. The letter was so heartwarming and the fact that she had sent a check to help us when I knew that her family was not well off either, brought tears to my eyes and delight to my heart. I instantly prayed to Jesus thanking Him for His glory and for having blessed me by placing someone like her in my life. What an amazing example of a good Christian woman, best friend, and a true sister in Christ.

Keep searching the Bible, not only for God's promises but also his commands.
His promises follow his commands.
One time there were two promises which followed only one command. Acts 2:38 commands people to be baptized. The first promise was the forgiveness of sin. The second promise was the gift of the Holy Spirit.
