I Am Unique

If you will indulge me a few minutes of your time I’d like to tell you about myself. I have a certain fascinating ability that is both entertaining to watch and provides an escape from predators. Children like to watch me and sometimes their parents too.

The first of my kind appeared via the miraculous power of the Word of the Creator. This progenitor of mine could possibly have been observing when the Creator formed man, the crown of His creation, later, on the same day. There are certain amazing things about me and my kind. (But nothing that compares to what the Creator placed into man who was put in charge of us and all of earth's creation.) We are very intriguing to watch and I like to think the Creator made us for the benefit of man. However, there are some farmers who do not like us when we are in the larval stage. But that doesn’t keep children from finding us and turning us upside down on the floor to watch what happens next. I know of no other creature that does what we do to turn ourselves right side up again. Can you guess what I am?

The thing we do is a neat little trick the Creator has so skillfully programmed into our DNA that makes us not only fascinating to watch but also gives us a means of escape when a predator threatens. You see, we have a trigger mechanism that, when released, makes a clicking sound and we go airborne for a few inches or more. So when you find me, treat me gently, and do not hurt me. You may watch me do my trick for a little while, but please release me when you are done. I want to glorify my Creator by doing the unique things he designed me to do. This is a reminder that you too are unique and should seek to glorify our Creator by doing the neat things you can do well. I am a click beetle, uniquely created. But you, my human friend, are even more unique.

This is quite charming. You had me guessing from worms or maggots to turtles. I think this would be great with just a bit of tweaking and polishing for a Christian Wildlife Magazine. Nice job!
