This is a question I hear every night from my seven year old.
“I’ll turn on the light, but I just leave it cracked.” I reply.
This is always a frustrating time at night for me. In my mind, she is seven. She shouldn’t be scared of the dark anymore. Her three year old sister isn’t. Sometimes she starts crying and I end up yelling at her. As I sat thinking about the topic for the week the Lord kept bring me back to this. I didn’t know why.
But the Lord was speaking to me about this dark world that we live in and that He is the true light. We need to be surrounding ourselves with His light. We need to be submerging ourselves in His word. We are His chosen people. Matthew 5:14 and 15 NIV says, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
Wow! We have such a great responsibility as Christians. Why is our light so easily hidden? Why is it that even as Christians we don’t want to be fully in the light? It’s because the light exposes what the darkness hides and someone might see it. So we put a foot in the light or try to just be half way in, continuously trying to hide what we don’t want exposed. We suffer from it. Out families suffer from it. Our country suffers from it. The church is in deep suffering because we don’t want to be completely in the light. We hang on to our sins, even those we have confessed, in fear of humiliation, ridicule and persecution. Because of this deceit builds in our hearts and we place a bowl over our lamps.
My daughter needs more Light in her life. She needs my wife and me to shine it on her. We need to be open to her, and teach her that the light is good. Now that the Lord has taught me a lesson I know I need to go to Him daily and ask, “Daddy, will you turn on Your light and open the door?”

Try to imagine that your challenge entry is going to be picked up and published somewhere completely unrelated to FW. (and maybe someday, that will happen) With that in mind, don't ever mention FW, the challenge, the topic, etc.
Expand and expound, and this will get even better.
