Mary struggled with this situation for many years. She got to the point where she was just sick of it all: she couldn't pray any more for Tom--nothing ever changed. In fact, he got worse. Tom lived with other women and committed adultery.
Finally one day as Mary prayed, she said, "Lord, You know I've prayed and prayed for this situation and this
impossible man. Your Word says that with God, all things are possible. I give this whole thing to You, and trust You are working in this situation."
Mary felt relief that day. Within just a few weeks, God gave her the strength and courage to proceed with a "pro se" (self representation) divorce. Tom had already severed
their marriage--Mary just needed to make it legal.
Then one sunnny Sunday after church service, Mary was chatting in the church entranceway with some friends, and she kept hearing some beautiful, passionately played piano music. The friends left the church and Mary walked back into the sanctuary.
Jim was so intensely playing the piano that he did not even notice Mary standing there. "Whoa! You scared me!" He said, and stopped playing.
"Hi," Mary said sheepishly, "What's your name?"
"Oh...my name is Jim. Aren't you the lady with the son named Ross?"
"Yes... I really like that song you were playing."
"Oh, really? I'm just playing around... I'm really a trumpet player."
"You're kidding! You are really good."
Instantly Mary and Jim were friends. After several weeks, they began dating. They talked on the phone for hours about everything....God, church, her son Ross, her family. It was
as if Mary had all these things trapped inside her emotions
and she finally had someone to listen to her!
Mary wasn't even thinking about getting married again, and she honestly didn't want to go through that pain again, either. One day, as Mary was praying, God gave her a vision of her wedding day with Jim. God showed her the details--even the dress she would wear. She started crying, and immediately called Jim.
Jim was crying, too...because God had given him the same vision, at the same time!
Well over a year after her divorce with Tom, Mary married Jim. They planned their wedding to be like a church service, as a witness to their unsaved friends and family. In the years that followed, Mary and Jim worked joyfully together for the kingdom of God, and laughed every time they hear an old piano playing.
With God, all things are possible!
