accused. She didn't understand
because she never consider herself as selfish. We misunderstand the meaning of selfishness. Selfishness involves putting our needs, etc. above those of others. We can become so self absorbed that we can not think of other. There is only one perspective and that is our perspective. Selfishness has no room for the opinions of others. Jesus told us we must love God and our neighbor as ourselves. The selfish person can not love God as he should because his first love is himself. He is on the throne of his heart. He is the center of his life. He sees life from one perspective and that is his perspective.
The selfish person takes but he is unable to give. Selfishness is a way of life until we are born again. Man is naturally selfish. Each individual is a God unto himself. There is no apology for that because that is a direct result of the fall. Jesus cane to break down those barriers and restore the original orderly. The original order was God on the throne of our lives. Each one walks around. He is a God unto himself.
At one time I was a very selfish person. There was only one way and that was my way. I did not realize the extent of my selfishness. I remember an experience where God told me pride and selfishness must be destroyed. I did not understand what he was talking about because of my mistanding of selfishness. I thought selfishness only meant an inability to share. I knew I shared things with others. So9 how was I selfish. My understanding was limited just as the understanding of others is limited. Before we can overcome selfishness we must first understand it.
