Dr. Torres said confirming my biggest fear.
This statement was followed by efforts to comfort a young man who had just turned twenty-one. Though noble in his attempt, honesty is his most prevalent trait.
“Be prepared for a steady decline in normal everyday functions…you will more than likely end up in a wheelchair probably around the time your forty, no later than fifty.” The list of possible permanent side affects that can develop is tragically abundant
I quietly await words to inspire hope
“There are interferon drugs used intravenously to help slow down the progression”
Is this the best that can be done by modern medicine? I do not accept this. Thank God I’m a Christian
And thank God by his grace I have been given the gift of faith and his word tells me that by faith I can move mountains Matt 17:20
With Jesus in my heart and faith on my lips I take my strongest stand. But only minimal progress to my goal to be whole is made. Where is my miracle? I am downcast watching years go by and my youth come to naught
Oh’ is there ever warfare. I see the presence of the fallen one for he is always about pestering. His goal to discourage the chosen, to make them unproductive in their walk with God. And it is he who mocks my pitiful existence
I am declining at a rate completely unexpected. What’s this? My chair came early and I am not yet thirty.
Lord you promised to heal me did you not?
Explain yourself. Has there ever been one point where I have doubted? If so point it out so that I may plead the blood of Christ over that part of my life. I am familiar with scripture and they speak of healing. Jesus healed all that asked of him, he turned none away. Will he start with me?
Yes lord, I have seen your hand at work in so many different ways in my life. So many different methods all wrapped beautifully in packages of hope. Yet where hope springs, despair creeps. I fight to stay whole in a collage of different creative methods. Each one I believe holds my miracle. But they all fall short.
I’m confused.
Abandoned.
I can fight no more.
I succumb.
All is grim.
All so sad.
Such an unfortunate thing to happen to such a young man
I only want what everyone else has. Simple things really. Doctor can you restore sensation to my hands, strength to my legs, sight to both eyes? I long to feel my lovers hand in mine. I wish to walk out my front door and retrieve the mail addressed to us. Yes, it is the simple things that I miss the most. I wish to rise above all conflict, knowing lord that you are in control. To help fix things around the house, learn a trade, earn an income, truly be the head of my home. Lord hear my cry! Will you hide your face forever?
My son I love you dearly and I have blessed you thoroughly.
Behold, you have a family that loves and prays for you, while many do not
Behold, you have a wife to share your life with, while many live alone
Behold, you have a home and eat to your full, while many have no shelter and go to bed hungry
I am trying you by fire so that you can smile in the face of adversity and give God praise
Ten years have passed now, my miracle yet to come,
My body deteriorating at a steady pace. My Doctor tells me to expect more of the same. Yet God is on his throne and I have a peace I can never understand Philippians 4:7
He reminds me so gently
“I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11
There is so much I do not understand but I can comprehend hope and the contentment that comes in God making my paths straight.
I am resolute in my walk. Yes, I said “walk”
His grace sufficient for me and my miracle close at hand.
Thank you lord for thinking about me I’m alive and doing fine.

I have a good friend with MS and had another one who is now in heaven. I marvel at the faith and perseverence of both these friends, since I find it hard to imagine having it in their situations!
