Topic: Melody (08/24/06)
Recently on her first birthday I stood holding my one-year-old daughter near the gate of our sheep pen. Why pseudo-country former urbanites have sheep is another story- but I digress. We were tossing them grain and watching them scuffle for the treat when my daughter began to squirm and wriggle in my arms trying to get down- no doubt she would have crawled right into the sheep pen if I didn't stop her! I don’t suppose one-year-olds understand the dangers of mixing it up with a 60 pound Barbados Blackbelly ram, but she squealed with an excitement almost beyond the control of her pre-toddler body. The sun was setting and I looked at her, smiled, and said to myself "Just like her sister...". Indeed my youngest daughter is just like her sister. Different in the ways children are typically different from each other, but the same in so many ways- and as I observed I began to reflect on how life repeats itself. The words of the preacher came to my mind "what has been will be again..." I see it in the schools, as disconnected youths find groups that give them some sense of belonging. Even the non-conformists bundle themselves with those of like beliefs- conforming I think- to non-conformism; and so it was when I was in school. I see it in society as the same issues come up again and again, generation after generation. Oh, the medium through which our concerns conduct is different and it seems to be coming at us more and more quickly, but they're the same things we have seen before. Yes, I believe life is a melody-it is a recurrent verse. A song whose template was laid out long ago by God and each of us within that melodic pattern is an artist who contributes to the song. Some of our notes are discordant; others resonate in harmony with the original tune laid down by the Author, but we all contribute to the tune. Another squeal of delight and I’m brought back to the present. Dust clouds waft up from the muttonous free-for-all instigated by the dwindling piles of grain. Did shepherds across the globe thousands of years ago stand holding their babies watching their sheep and wondering at the magnificent melody of life? I’m sure they did...I’m sure that as a father I have the same hopes, concerns, fears and delights as they did but as for me- it’s time to go inside. Enough reflection- I think my daughter needs some help with a certain bodily function. Ah yes, the melody of life...

Pretty good-but a little confusing in some places. Maybe try separating into paragraphs to make it easier to read.

Wonderful thoughts here - I would suggest you separate your thoughts into paragraphs to make this easier to follow and take in. Also, you are not supposed to put your name anywhere in a challenge piece, as they are supposed to be anonymous. Great ideas here!
