“No, no!†I shook my head, and tried to give it back to her, but she was insistent.
“God made it possible for us to buy a new car that better serves our needs,†she said. “We wanted to give God a thank offering for His gift to us, so we gave our other car to a couple that could not afford one, wanting to bless them as we had been blessed. But they then insisted on paying something for the car. So please take this!†Since part of their offering to the Lord had come back to them, she was passing it on again, hoping to bless me.
I was blessed by the gift, but uncomfortable, not knowing what I should do with gift money that obviously belonged to God. So, I put the money in the bank (set aside in a God Fund) and waited for God to show me when and where to pass it on.
In the meantime, a new invitee to the Bible study group faced an immediate need of moving to a different apartment or house because the mold in the one she was in was making her sick. Her search was severely limited by her small budget.
She said an ideal rental property was offered to her with rent she could afford—set as low as possible to cover a very compassionate landlord's expenses only—but she still didn’t have enough for the deposit.
When I asked how much more was needed to make this dream come true for her, what fun it was to hear, "A hundred dollars would do it." And what joy there was in writing a check and delivering it into the hands of the new landlord—who, to my great delight, turned out to be Cathryn!
I understand the term money market to refer to highly liquid, short-term loans or investments. Well, God must be the originator of the money market concept. Our money is only on loan to us. It all belongs to Him and He wants it to be held lightly, to be reinvested at every opportunity, to bless, to grow and multiply as it is invested for Kingdom of God purposes.
I hope it gave God pleasure to see His children playing His version of Money Market Game—as His money went from hand to hand, full circle, blessings being multiplied each time it was touched.
