Why The Mad Rush

Everything today seems like it has to be done now, at this very moment, or it just isn’t going to happen. People, sometimes, don’t seem to have time for their friends, family, or even themselves; everything seems to be in a rush.
Using the turn of the century in 1900 as the starting point, up until then the usual way of land travel, was either by horse, horse and carriage, or walking. Everything seemed to be at a slower pace; friends had time for friends, families would sit down together at the table for meals and family time. If someone were asked to help with something, and the person being asked could not respond immediately, the word was given of when they could. There was no need for any written agreement, a persons word was their bond. If a man passed by a woman on the street, normally the man would courteously speak and take his hat off to her, if he were wearing one. Showing respect towards one another could sometimes be seen by holding a door open for someone, or helping to load their carriage. The world seemed to be more kind towards each other.
Now, 109 years later, one can make a phone call around the world, space probes leaving the galaxy, an electronic age, cyber space on the internet etc. All the technology that had never been seen or heard of for thousands of years before is now evident. It seems that the human race has become very intelligent, but what good is this if there is lack of respect beginning to dominate the world. Children in times past were taught to show respect to those who were older than they were, but somehow this doesn’t seem to be as wide spread as it once was.
If we could but slow down, and find, or rather take time for one another, it might seem to be a better world. Technology may soar, but the people that have to live on the same earth together anyway, don’t have to soar with it.
