In memory of Melvin Hopkins, May 4, 1927 - May 7, 2009

Melvin Hopkins was his given name
Loving life and others was his game
His nickname Hoppy fit him right fine
He was as good as the costliest wine

He was born in North Dakota in 1927
Now he lives in a place called heaven
He loved his family with all his heart
He served his country and did his part

His wife Janie was a great blessing to him
He loved his sons greatly, both of them
His peaceful place in the woods was dear
He loved birds, animals, and trees it is clear

The young lad who joined the Navy in 1944
Was 82 when he departed to be gone ever more
The great Admiral called for Hoppy to get onboard
He made it safe to the harbor on that golden shore
