Hey there, what do you say we go for a ride! Just hop on!
Put your left foot in the stirrup; grab a hold of the reins, and throw your right leg over the stirrup and you are ready to go. Give her a kick and let’s get started…Things are going smoothly, just a leisurely stroll down the country lane. You know, I can really handle this horse, everything is going great! After a little while, something from out of the woods spooks the horse, and she decides to take off at a full gallop! Here we are, running down the hill, going faster and faster, out of control. It's getting scary! The reins have fallen down under the horse and are whipping around its legs. What are we going to do? I can't hold on much longer! I thought I had control.
Suddenly from out of nowhere, an experienced equestrian comes up behind and grabs a hold of the reins and speaks gently to the rider and the horse and tries to calm them both. He calls out to the horse “Whoa now, whoa girl!” It was good thing I had some help. Everything is going to be all right now. Wow, that was close! Have you been riding the bucking bronco lately? Is your horse running at full gallop down a steep hill? I am learning that sometimes the best thing for me to do is the hardest. Letting go, and Letting God take control. We want to run the show. We are in charge and sometimes we think we know what is best for our lives. Jesus is the experienced equestrian. He can speak Peace be Still to the storms in our lives In spite of the bumpy ride through our circumstances, God knows what is best for us and in our human finite minds there is no way we can comprehend the whole entire picture as God can.
The trials and struggles of life are inevitable. They are going to be there for all of us, coming out of the woods, startling our calm ride, spooking us, scaring us. I struggle with letting go of the control of the reins and learning to relax and completely stop and give it all to God. Letting go means, I might fall off the bucking horse. At times, I feel I am holding on for dear life to the reins and letting go is the last thing I want to do! Recently I have found that God will be, and is, there to catch me. He is taking me into a higher plane, a peaceful place of rest, of knowing that God is still God and that He is there and I have to continually let everything go and take it all to Him.
Have you ever just read the words to “What a friend we have in Jesus?” I have sung this song for years and was recently reminded that the writer says that we often forfeit peace because we do not take it to the Lord in prayer. There is freedom in submission. How wonderful the peace that He provides my soul when I give it to Him, The wonderful assurance that He knows all. More than I do by far, more that the doctors, more than I do by far more that anyone does. Let me remind you this is a work in progress. I continue to let go every day. I can feel his peace sweep over my soul when I take a deep breath, drop the reins and place them Into His very capable hands.
