Testimonies
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. “
I have had the following words on my mind now for several weeks. The title came to me first very powerfully, also, the first true topic matter. Sometimes I wait too long to put pen to paper, at times I procrastinate. Sometimes my words flow naturally, and other times I have too much on my mind to truly listen to God’s direction. Forgive me, Lord.
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000. My symptoms have been with me now for 10 years. I remember the summer of 1999 all too clearly. I started having problems with my right hand, my 4th and 5th finger were tingly and numb periodically. At times it was hard for me to pick things up, and I would drop stuff. And, with my profession as a piano teacher, I needed my fingers! It would truly drive me crazy! The next symptom was my eyes, specifically my right eye. The vision was blurry at times. It would come and go and again put a strain on my nerves.
The “happenings” in my body were almost too crazy to put into words. The symptoms didn’t make any sense. After about a year or so (when I had another more severe attack with my right eye) I had my second MRI. Then I was a confirmed Multiple Sclerosis patient.
I could go on and on with what has happened since then, the numerous episodes of “cotton balls” in my eye, my right leg, “drop foot” syndrome that hit me at the time of my 25th Anniversary Party, my weakness and “complete tiredness” I feel frequently, BUT…. this is my blessing……
Can I still walk and talk? Yes! Can I still drive? Yes! Can I still write and play the piano? Yes! Do I still drive the four-wheeler? Yes! Am I in a wheelchair? No!
One very real blessing that I felt the Lord laid on my heart through this article is very real to me.
I have titled this article “Unseen Blessings.” I have had many blessings in my life; some were obvious, but not recognized, such as the following.
I feel very blessed that I have been able to share so many good times with my mother over this period of time. She has been there to pray with me and to support me.
I have been able to help her with the computer (which she uses every day). I can take her to her doctor’s appointments and to the beauty shop (yes, that is important!), and Jack and I have been able to spend holidays together with her and our family, Amanda and Forrest, her husband and Dustin and his fiancé’ Tonya, who are going to be married next month. Mom has been able too share these times with us. An unseen blessing, maybe an obvious one, but definitely one to thank the Lord for! I am glad I have felt like being there for her, just as I praise the Lord for her being ability to be there for me! God is leading her physically, allowing her to step over to her 86th birthday! I truly believe that the Lord has given me strength to be able to be there for her.
And, in the same respect, I have been blessed by going to see my daughter graduate from college and get married, and my son has graduate from high school, and start College. It was a wonderful privilege to be a home school parent for 6 years. Happy and Sad Good times! My daughter has moved “down south” but we remain close by phone and visits as much as possible.
I am truly blessed by a wonderful husband who loves me and loves the Lord. He has stood by me through it all. I cannot praise the Lord enough for Jack!
These are my blessings that I do thank the Lord for, but I need to do it in writing and to profess to the world what God CAN do and what he HAS done. Jacob named the place Bethel where God had revealed himself to him. (Gen. 35:7) This is my place to reveal God’s blessings. A reminder to me also, that he is able to continue to bless me and reveal his love to me.
I am aware that He has lifted me. The flip side is that, yes, Satan has been there to attempt to destroy what Christ has presented me. But as I write this, even though I feel physically weak, He is my strength and my shield and His Word continues to fortify my soul.
He has given us a beautiful place to live. A true blessing this is so obvious, but unexpected as nature. His one and only Son is my Savior and he has given to me eternal life, and we still have a free country to live in.
Now it is your turn…..make a list and praise Him for YOUR unseen blessings. They are there, with your name personalized on them!
