The last step from lesson 33 was a big one, perhaps the biggest yet. Anyone can understand that we are looking for the truth in our lives, and most would agree that it's worth the effort. But the idea that Truth itself plays an active role in the business of enlightenment is a leap of faith. We are used to feeling that we are in control of what we do, but as we draw near to a power that is greater than ourselves we must have trust.

That God is looking for us may sound comforting, but consider carefully and fearfully what would be the result if we're found. This is no simple lion's den that we approach. It is Truth that we seek and no lie can exist in that presence. It is a furnace that will burn up all trace of what is false. We must consider if there would be enough of us left to stand if we turn that last corner, and it is best to not go alone.

And now we are drawing near to the presence.

34. The Lord is Close

I will bless the Lord no matter what happens, I will not forget his name. My confidence grows and I am no longer afraid. Come and make a promise with me, we will hold up the Lord’s name together.

I searched for the Lord but He found me, He took away all my fears. Many have looked to Him and had their burdens lifted; they have been made glad. The poor man cried out and was heard, he was saved from all his troubles. The presence of the Lord surrounds them that fear Him and it protects them. You can taste the presence and know that the Lord is good, it is beneficial to trust Him. His saints fear Him and they shall not lack. The strongest and most powerful sometimes go hungry but they that seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Come and listen if you seek after the truth; I will teach you what it means to fear the Lord. Who among you wants to live? Do you desire a long life so you may see more of God’s good creation?

Then you must stop your tongue from evil and do not let your lips speak lies. Stay away from negative thoughts and do good work; seek after peace, make efforts to find it. The Lord sees the righteous and his ears are open to their cry. His face is turned away from them that do evil so that not even the memory of them will be left on the earth.

The righteous cry and the Lord hears it, He delivers them out of all their troubles. He is closest to those who have a broken heart, and He gives strength to the ones who ache for a change of their bad habits.

Many troubles afflict those chosen for the higher path, but the Lord delivers them out of every one. He keeps them safe and able to go on. Evil will slay the wicked and those that hate the righteous will be made desolate.

The Lord redeems the souls of his servants and none that trust Him shall ever be lost.

Our confidence grows with patience and joy, God sees us and hears us and we feel his Presence in our lives. We interact with Him, giving and taking in our learning and growth. We begin to know what to do in every circumstance. We express appreciation all day long in our thoughts and words and feelings. We see ourselves as helpers in God’s good creation bringing positive ideas to help where it is needed, knowing the result will be for the good of all even when we can’t see it or get the credit. Especially when we don’t get the credit of others because we know with our feelings that nothing is overlooked or lost.

For some, to stop speaking evil or lies would mean to stop talking altogether: there’s much to be gained from silence. Listening and learning, we make efforts to find peace in the world and we find it in our lives. It will not be easy, nothing of value ever is. In fact we will be sometimes pushed to our limits because that is how our limits grow. That is really why we are here: this is a garden and we are the fruit, the soil and the gardeners, depending on need.
