God's Love is Unconditional and Unfailing

God love you with a steadfast and enduring love that can be difficult to understand but is pure joy to rely on. “O my strength to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love” ( Psalm 59:17 NLT).

But what does God mean by unfailing love? As humans, we understand through our faith that God is our comfort and our strength, but do we really know in our deepest heart that he loves us unconditionally, without fail and without change? It can be difficult to fathom this whole-hearted, unreserved love. After all, even those closest to us may sometimes let us down or grow away from us.

Perhaps the only love on earth that is close to God’s unconditional love is the love a parent have for their children. We will protect them to the very end of our days, comfort them when they are hurting and defend them even when they have disappointed or exasperated us. God’s love for us is the same - we do not have to perform or live up to certain expectations to receive his love. In our personal lives, we may always strive to be good enough , interesting enough or attractive enough - but with God, the love is there from the beginning and is steadfast and unfailing even when we are at our worst.

God’s Love is Always Present

God says, “When you call Me, I will answer.” That’s a pretty strong affirmation. He doesn’t say, “Call Me and I’ll get back to you,” or “call Me and if I’m not angry with you I’ll answer.” There are no limitations, no strings attached, just a simple and pure promise. This is what unconditional love is about - it is all about God being there for you, day and night, year after year, during the highs and the lows of your life. Will you always get the answer you want? Probably not, but then God, like a good parent, knows what is best for you. His answers are the right ones and He will always provide them out of love for you.

God knows you better than anyone else. Does that sound frightening to you? It shouldn’t. Yes, God knows about all of the small sacrifices you’ve made as well as the big mistakes - and His love changes not one bit because of them ! If you can accept God’s love and the good He has prepared for you in the same manner it was given - unconditionally and without reservation - you will find peace in knowing that unconditional love.

The Comfort of Unconditional Love

If you’ve ever had a friend or loved one that you felt you could trust completely, you’ve had a faint taste of what it like to be able to rely on someone without worry or fear. But even the strongest relationships can end , loved ones can die, circumstances can destroy our faith in others. Not so with God and His unconditional love because He is never-ending and never changing. Nothing in this world that you can do or say will alter His love for you. He will never leave you or forsake you. You can always, always find comfort and security through your relationship with God because it is, like Him, eternal. “Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me” ( Psalm 23:4 NLT). Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to know that, just like the writer of the Psalm, God’s presence and love are still here today, still an eternal presence in your life?

No matter what you do, no matter how you look, know matter how many mistakes you’ve made; you can never let God down because He love you without conditions, without measure and with no reservations. God is guiding you through every experience of your life - not because you have earned it, but because God loves you no matter what. When the dark clouds settle and all others abandon you, the light of God will shine bright and show you the way. His guiding light us unconditional love.
