Most of us know that time with God can be uplifting and we sometimes vow to spend more time in the future praying or attending church so that we can draw closer to Him, but so often, life simply gets in the way. We find ourselves thinking that the time we spend in church or at Bible study or even meditating in our own homes is time that could be spent doing other, more “practical” things that need to be taken care of. What we need to remember is that every moment with God is special.

Skipping prayer, church, meditation or Bible time for earthly things is turning your back on the one thing you need most in your life – the Lord’s guidance and blessings. In fact, the more practical things you have to take care of, the more need to have God in your every day life! God will help you to gain the earthly things you need through his guidance and blessings. His power is a transformative power that means no moment spent with Him is wasted.

Besides, God is a constant presence even after prayer and praise has ceased. He is an unwavering source of healing, harmonizing energy in our lives if we pray to Him and ask Him to enter our lives. He will answer those prayers and become a precious presence that makes every aspect of our lives special – but we must open our eyes and our hearts to see it and feel it.

Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually.
1 Chronicles 16:11

We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that the experience of our Creator is only in the structured moments – formal worship ceremonies, prayer, reading the Bible – but any moment that acknowledges His hand in creation and the wonder of His love for mankind can be a moment of communion with His loving kindness. These personal, private moments are just as precious in his sight as the grand gestures and hold great meaning. There is an old Irish proverb that explains the importance of small moments in a day, and they sum up how God might look at these moments as well:

…Take the time to be friendly, it is the road to happiness;
…Take time to look around, the day is too short to be selfish;
…Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul.
Irish Proverb

We could easily add, “Take time to admire nature, it is God’s handiwork,” and “Take time to thank God for this day, it is His precious gift to you,” and so many other phrases that would take just a few seconds out of the day. Yet each would be a precious moment with God that would enrich your personal relationship with Him.

God is our strength, our comforter and our guide. God’s presence is a constant and uninterrupted power. We don’t have to wait for a clear, sunny day to experience our Creator. He surrounds and enfolds us in his loving arms in countless ways that we only have to open our hearts and minds to, acknowledging just how precious each of those moments are to Him and to ourselves.
