Upon a colt never ridden
He came toward Jerusalem at last
Knowing all things that were hidden
Would soon come to past

All the people gave shout
And praise on one accord
Had they not; the rocks would cry out
“Blessed be the Lord!”

But at the hearing of their cheers
And upon beholding the great city
He wept sorely with great tears
Knowing for Him they would have no pity

To the temple he went in to seek
And cleanse out the thieves
Then he taught daily that week
To all that would take head

But the Scribes and the Pharisees
Sought time and time again
To catch Him in any heresy
But from His mouth came no sin

Then Judas let Satan in
For thirty pieces of silver
For this price he would betray a friend
To the chief priests, he would deliver

They sat down in the upper room to eat
On His chest a disciple leaned
He arose and washed their feet
But all were not clean

And they went out for to pray
As great weight fell on the Son
And he cried, Father, take this cup away
Nevertheless thy will be done

Then a multitude came, and ahead
Behold Judas in the mist
And as he approached, Jesus said
Will you betray me with a kiss?

They took Jesus and began to beat Him
Peter followed, not knowing what to do
Then one after another accused him
Saying, weren’t you with Jesus too?

He denied he knew Jesus thrice
It was the Lord he was denying
Then the cock began to crow twice
And Peter left bitterly crying

Then they took Jesus with hast
And blindfolded Him so that He couldn’t see
Then they punched Him mercilessly in the face
Saying, Prophesy! Who hit thee?

They continued until the day break
Until he was bloodied and aching in pain
But the Lord continued for our sakes
To bring glory to His Holy name

They spit on Him and pulled out His beard
Not one accusation did He deny
Those that praised Him a week ago now cheered
Saying, Let Him be crucified!

They beat a crown of thorns into His head
And tore the flesh and skin form His back
The high priest wanted Him dead
So viscously they attacked

He carried His cross down the way of sorrows
As they cursed and spit on Him along the way
And they reviled Him like there’s no tomorrow
There was not an insult they would not say

Then at Calvary they crucified Him on the cross
Driving the nails thru His feet and hands
It seemed as though He had loss
By the hands of sinful man

Just when you thought there was nothing left
The people continued like a mob
Crying, “He saved others; let him save himself
If He be the Son of God”

And they railed Him till the ninth hour
As they celebrated and began to boast
Then He shouted with all His power
And with that He gave up the ghost

And they pierced Him in His side
And from hence came water and blood
He had poured out His passion inside
Enduring terrible pain for His love

They placed His body in a tomb within
And there He lay for three days
But on the third day He took up His life again
For in there it was impossible for Him to stay

He arose with all power in His hand
To ascend back to His Father above
In His passion for unworthy man
He purchased us eternally with His blood
