The fall leaves crunch beneath my feet
As I walk back in time
Where today and yesterday meet
When a candy bar only cost a dime

A time when you could take a man at his word
Promises made were promises kept
What was said is what you heard
Repayment was made for a debt

Marriage was between a husband and wife
Family was children with a mom and dad
Hard work and honesty were a way of life
Doing right made a heart glad

Neighbors were more than just the people next door
They were willing to lend a helping hand
When a person could be rich even when poor
Wealth was not measured by brand

Beneath my feet, a twig cracks
Bringing me back to the present
Realization of the facts
Confirm that the past was not all that pleasant

Since the fall of man
There have been liars, cheats and thieves
Although, it was not God’s plan
Evil brought about by the one who deceives

The present, no better or worse than before
The future promises nothing better or worse
The best we can do, is endure
Living under the curse

Clinging to the eternal hope of a future life
Where all is good, holy and right
A place without grief and strife
Walking by faith, not sight
