I often wonder at the vacuity of moderns as they posit Nietzsche's old arguments about the death of God, as though this is a truth, a need and the answer to a better world. They fail to grasp the ghastly life and horrific death of the German who stared into the abyss a wee bit too long.

Nietzsche understood that without the foundation of righteousness there would be no such thing as civilization, nor any demonstration of the milk of human kindness, but only as he described it, the abyss. Morbid though he be, he welcomed the abyss and I feel rather certain he was embraced by it.

Moderns who adapt most of the German's arguments think the "good points" of Christianity would somehow survive and the peoples of earth would live quality, productive lives, sans the constraints of superstition. That this is a fallacious concept is observable at will. When religion is removed from the public life, it takes only one or two generations for the populace to sink to animalistic levels. They locked God outside the iron curtain and in 50 years the nation was awash in Vodka soaked sots, so miserable they could not stand even another day. They were forced to attempt to live without the foundations for the quality life.

Religion, especially the Judeo-Christian faith accepts the truths as laid out in the Old and New Testaments as valid guides for the most important facet of civilized life. When some form of divine revelation is removed, you no longer have a platform to teach the sacredness of life, even in the womb, life as lived with hopes and dreams, the responsibility of the young for the old, the strong for the weak.

Have you ever considered that the bulk of Bible teaching is really "Relationships For Dummies?"

When you have relationships, you have respect, love, joy and certain responsibilities relative to that relationship. Years ago a group of Bible Scholars met to attempt to distill biblical truth into one statement. They did even better and winnowed it down to one word, relationships. Doug Carter wrote:

"When you extract all of the unnecessary things about life, all that remains is relationships."

This being true, isn't it about time to ponder the Psalmists question:

Psalms 11:3 "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
