My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; When you awake, they will speak to you. (Proverbs 6: 20-22)
These verses show the value of following the counsel of parents. Of course it assumes that parents give Godly counsel. If you heed that counsel consider the benefits--when you walk they will guide you. Do you ever wonder what to do in a given situation? What is your father's counsel? When you sleep they watch over you. Peaceful sleep is a gift from the Lord. When you awake they speak to you. Does your father or mother's counsel speak to you during your days? Probably.
