Though I saw that old darkness, I nearly became its next victim.
I did not recognize Satan’s work, though for years I ran with him.
This darkness was atypical; it bore resemblance of a sweet old dream.
I thought it a blessing; it was just another of Satan’s wicked schemes.

My confidence in my own knowledge, had become much too high.
The shrewdness of that hellish trick, fooled my heart and its eye.
I saw that old darkness, as God’s answer to an enduring prayer.
I believed it to be consecrated, when nothing Godly was there.

I say to you this story, to alert those covered by Christ’s blood.
Sometimes God disallows your wishes, for your very own good.
The devil heard that old prayer, all those years I prayed fervent.
Stay vigilant or he’ll trick you, even though you’re God’s servant.

Jesus stood close by me, as I almost made an immoral choice.
At the beginning He warned; I noticed not His still small voice.
I perceived more than a few red flags, as I spiraled out of control.
Had I been granted my desire, I would have certainly lost my soul.

I was under the impression that I couldn’t be tricked by the devil.
When I took my eyes off King Jesus, Satan caught me at his level.
I’ve learned to identify a true blessing and detect Satan’s schemes.
As Jesus saved me once again, I learned what “covered” truly means.
