The Day I Fell

One day a few years ago I fell down in the street. As I stepped off of the sidewalk, there was a hole covered with grass that I knew nothing about. My foot went down in the hole and flipped me over into the street. I hit my head as well as the whole front parts of my body. As the guy that picked me up said “he did not know that I had been knocked out and he picked me up and I started spinning in the street and fell again”. Now as I had previously felt that you had to be in sin to fall, I no longer think that. I said that when things happened to you like this, you must be in sin and is being punished. Well guess what? That is not necessarily the truth. I had not fallen into any sin when I fell down on my face, but was praising God just before I fell.

Just like in the natural we fall, also we can fall spiritually. When we do not do the things God has called us to do, we are in a fallen state. Falls aren’t so easy to bounce back from. You never know all of the areas you hurt. You never know how your fall affects someone else in their walk. The people that depended on me for their need was affected, neighbors that depended on me also was affected, my work at my job had to be done by someone else causing a double load and the church missed my praise.

How does what you do in your life affect everyone that you come in contact with daily? I fell in the natural, but think of the times I have fallen to sin in the spiritual and still tried to go on in Jesus name. Am I my brother keeper? Yes. Love thy neighbor is a command and what you do affects everyone in every aspect of your life. Love thy neighbor, think about someone else other than your own selfish wants or need. Just as God is depending on you to make a difference in someone else life, that someone is depending on you to also do what you say and be who you say you are.

The day I fell my body was full of pain, from my head to my toe. Everything hurt so much. When we as the people of God fall into sin, we hurt more than ourselves. It is time to we think on others more than ourselves. It is time we think on God rather than our own selfishness when we are tempted to do our wrong deeds. Do I Love God? How can I hurt him like this? Who is depending on me to make a difference? When we sin we hurt not just ourselves as previously thought. It has been said that if I do something it will hurt no one but me. That is not true. Everyone you see, come in contact with everyday can be affected by your sin. Jesus being a man in the flesh knew about sin and its nature. He rebuked the Devil and spoke the Word to him after he came to tempt Jesus in Matthew 4. We feed our flesh so much more than the Word that we forget that our first response to temptation should be the Word. But whatever is in you will come out first.

The day I fell, I was sick to my stomach. We should be so sick of sin that we throw it out of our lives. We do not have to hold on to the one thing Jesus died for. On the Cross at Calvary Jesus did not deserve what happened to him, but he did it for all of mankind that they too could come back in right relationship with the Father. This is the love that he had for his Father and God’s creation. What greater love than this that a man would lay down his life for a friend. The day I fell, I thought I had taken it for the cause of Jesus Christ and I did. Satan right before I fell told me “I hate you” and I replied “I hate you more”. He hates me because no longer do I fall for his sin tactics in my life. When I fell he tried to make me think that I fell down that God was ungrateful for the life I was living for him. Satan is deceptive in all his ways but God is truth and at one time he may have gotten me on his side with that deceptiveness. I had fallen in times past with the sin of fornication but thank God, I am over three years clean. Do I sound like someone confessing at an AA meeting? Yes. I am a self professed sinner redeemed by the blood of Jesus that have found out that I do not have to sin, just trust God.

People sin because what is in you will take precedence over the mind of God. Philippians 2:5 encourages us to let this mind that was in Jesus Christ also be in us. It is with His mind, His Word, and His love that we are able to walk away from sin. It is nothing we did as some think, but it is what Jesus did when he buried sin in the pits of Hell.

When you fall, was it for the sake of God or is it because of your disobedience to God’s Word. The Holy Ghost is sent back when Jesus died on the Cross to help us to walk away from sin. The Holy Ghost is the continuator of what Jesus did on the cross. The Holy Ghost is our battle ax now. We cannot continue to deny the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost with our sinful acts. Realize that when you fall, it better not be into sin. Fall if you may, let it be because of God that you are suffering. This battle is not yours but God’s.
