I met with my friend Megan today to discuss our reading for the week on her lunch break. We had both agreed to read a book on spiritual growth as a way to develop our friendship and relationship with God. As we were discussing the previous week's chapter on prayer, I posed a question to my friend that I have been asking myself for at least a decade. What if you realized that God was there? I pointed to an empty space in between my chair and hers.

She began, as any average Christian may have, to state that God really is with us all the time. "Yes, it may be hard to understand, but who is ever going to fully understand God or what He's saying or when and if He does say anything to Christians?" (I'm paraphrasing her statement of course). She didn't understand my question. What if you realized God was right there, beside you? What if you knew God was there, as you would know that your friend is sitting at Subway talking to you and eating a sandwich?

Since we know that God is with us, what if you realized he was there all the time? We also know that when two are gathered in His name, He is there with them. Why then do we, as Christians, talk about Him as if He's not there? Do we really, truly believe that God is with us as are the people we see around us? How would your life change?

If you had your best friend standing by you all day, all night, every moment of the day, how would you behave or think? What if God was visible to you every moment of the day? Would you act the same? My friend said after a few moments that her heart was racing, and she got up to purchase her boss a sandwich.

If you're anything like myself, you'd be both freaked out, comforted, and convicted all at once. How often do we disbelieve, forget, or dismiss the presence of God?
