We are in a time where immoral sexual activities are widespread and commonplace, even in the church. There is no need to wonder why because the word of God said that these times would come, but that's not an excuse for Christians to use as an escape in satisfying our own selfish desires. Things that are happening today were prophesied through the word, but God is allowing these things to happen as warnings and means of saving us from the damnation of hell. For example, the AIDS epidemic. AIDS is widespread and incurable; and although there are a number of ways to contract the deadly disease, sex runs at the top of the list simply because we have accepted fornication, adultery, and homosexuality as normal parts of our lives, which should not be. As Christians, we are in this world, not of this world, described as peculiar people, which means we are different and should not accept the standards of this world. Why are we so receptive to the sexual sins of this world? The answer is simple, but needs to be addressed individually, as the Body of Christ, as families, and most importantly, as Bible-believing, God-fearing Christians.
Although it is taught in our homes and in church that fornication, adultery and homosexuality is sin, the discussion or lesson usually doesn't go beyond acknowledging that God doesn't approve of nor accepts this behavior from His children. Why does God frown so on such behavior? If you would read the selected scripture, it tells us that the body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. Temple is defined as a place devoted to a special purpose. The church is usually referred to as a temple, but the church building isn't the church that is represented when it's stated that the Savior will return for a church without spot or wrinkle. The church this referenced scripture is speaking of is our temple, and it must be clean, spotless, and free of sin for us to be able to go back with our Savior. Why is it so important for the temple to be clean? Simply because the word tells us plainly that the Spirit of the Lord does not dwell in unclean places. The Spirit of God is our guide, and without its presence, we are capable of doing anything against ourselves and against others. We need the Spirit of the Lord to dwell within us and among us for guidance, protection, and prosperity. Fornication, adultery, and homosexuality are all sins against the body because it's filled with feelings of lust. Sex was meant for marriage, and sex in marriage is the only pure and righteous form of sex. All others are sin and unacceptable. You may feel that it's okay to engage in such activity because you always repent and ask for forgiveness. On every occasion mentioned in the Bible, when one repented, they were told to go and sin no more. The word tells us that God will turn a deaf ear to our insincere pleas. If you are asking God to forgive you each time you commit an immoral sinful act and you have no intentions of turning away from it forever, your plea is insincere and unheard.
Although you may feel that your fornicating is not hurting anyone, that is not near true because it's hurting YOU spiritually, emotionally, and physically. How? Spiritually because you have made your temple unclean and are risking dying in sin; the Spirit of God flees from you; you have no guide or protection; and you cannot grow. If you do something like preach, sing, pray, play an instrument, or anything to God's glory while you are yet still in bondage of sexual sins, it is dead and unprofitable, in vein, because the Spirit of God is not with you. Emotionally, especially for women, because regardless of what you think or how you say you feel, emotions are involved in sex. You may be wasting love or desire on someone who means you no good, and who may eventually hurt you, which will add baggage to be taken into the relationship that is really meant for you. Physically because your body is being abused. Although you may feel it brings you pleasure, your body is being broken down. You are wasting energy, time and effort on someone who really doesn't belong to you. Women, your bodies are most at risk because your sexual organs are located internally and effect so many other parts of your body. You risk losing your ability to bare children with disease and infection.
Although all of the points mentioned thus far are very important, the most important point that can be made is that you hinder the will of God and mark it up with blemishes. If you proclaim to be a Christian, you are a representative of what God stands for. If you are engaging in such activities, what are you saying to the unsaved world? You are saying it's okay and God accepts it, which is not true. If God accepts it and you're in the church, what's the point in coming into the church? God accepts you, not the sin, and if you are committing the sin, you are disconnecting yourself from God. God never leaves us, but when we choose to live a life of sin, we leave Him. Our bodies are temples and the Spirit of God lives within these temples. Don't dirty up the church; keep it clean.
So, I encourage you today to not just tell you children, regardless of age, that fornication, adultery and homosexuality is sin, but explain to them why: Not just because of unwanted pregnancies and disease, but because their bodies are temples and are transporting the most precious cargo, the Holy Ghost. If we teach our children this simple fact, I'm sure some of them will become concerned for their souls, which means more saved souls. Besides, we've used pregnancy and disease as "no sex before marriage" reasons for years, and Satan came up with solutions to those: birth control and condoms. No sex is the only solution for spiritual cleanliness and obedience to the word of God. Carry your precious cargo the way God intended; in a clean and pure environment.
