We have all received or given this advice from time to time. And we all can agree that it is good advice. It is, however, one of the many things in life that is easier said than done.

How many nights have you been unable to sleep worrying over a problem? How much time have you wasted anticipating bad things that never came to pass? How many suspected heart attacks turned out to be indigestion? How often have perceived crises disappeared with the dawn?

Look back over your life and I will wager you can list hundreds of needless worries. Why do we continue to make our lives miserable by worrying about the future?

There are least three things wrong with worrying:

It doesn’t change a thing.

If you are sick, worrying can make you sicker.

Although we may not think of it as such, worrying demonstrates a lack of trust in God.

Worry has never changed anything. But God has. And therein lies our answer. Substitute prayer for worry. Ask God to take care of all those things that worry you. Tell God you are putting your worries in His hands and that you trust Him to take good care of you. One wag once remarked, “Get some sleep; give your worries to God. He is up all night anyway.”

I am not saying this is easy. It is very difficult. It is our nature to worry. We have to overcome it though. We have to fight Satan, who tries to fill our minds with negative thoughts and fearful imaginations. We have to pray hard. Concentrate fully on prayer. Put your whole mind, body and soul into it. Work at it as hard as you can. And keep at it.
