Faith

So many days have come and gone
Without so much as a flicker of change
For this tired soul;
I have no news to gladden this aching heart.

Days grind on into years
And my patience is wearing thin.
My thoughts are transported to an earlier time
When my voice was healthy and strong;
Singing was the vehicle that spoke
The words I could not,
And revealed feelings
That could not be shared,
Or admitted.

But now my voice has changed--
Thrusting a wounding blow
To an already fragile self esteem
And sense of pride,
I struggle to find purpose
And meaning anew to a life
Which is totally unfamiliar to me.

The Spirit speaks to my heart,
Encouraging me to go forward
Into this unfamiliar place
To learn new skills and hone those
That need sharpening.

Looking back, I am so thankful
for all I've learned
And how much I've grown.
I have always been determined
To serve God in whatever comes my way--
I am grateful!
