There is a perfect city whose peace from distance calls,
Where righteousness will rule the lives of all within its walls,
And peace will pave its footpaths and love adorn its gates:
Such a splendid city is for all who live by faith.

Our faith must be founded on firm established fact,
Whose walls are built on bricks of truth, impervious, intact.
Then when the days of shaking come, as come they surely must,
Our home of faith will solid stand, in Him in whom we trust.

Abraham, so long ago, believed in God’s command,
Departed his father’s home to find the promised land,
Knowing well, what God had said would surely come to pass,
He looked to the future as more certain than the past.

Likewise all the prophets lived, this city in their sights.
Here they had no lasting home, were looking to the Christ;
Pilgrims on a certain journey, no thought of turning back;
Firmly focused on God’s Word, they followed in its path.

New Heaven and new earth will come, replacing all the old,
New Jerusalem descends from God, where He has placed His throne;
All tears will be washed away, all sorrow, death and pain;
With Christ in everlasting peace, God’s redeemed will reign.
