You were very sick
I only heard this morning
That you were deceased

When love has taken flight!
And you’re too late to say Wait!
I’m not ready for you to go!

My response had been to pray
About this tugging at my heart
Never realizing you were
Preparing to depart

I should have called
To check on you
Love should have no lapses
You keep in touch for
That is love’s duty

Love is God ordained,
Not to be taken for granted
Whether you are the giver
Or just the taker

When will we learn to love
Love is the mission
The high calling
Love must be sustained

We must will to love
Throughout the storms
The storm is just an exercise
To strengthen love’s resolve

“Love is strong as death”
Love never has to die –
Its power is eternal
So where was I

When you needed me
Unable to see
It was our season

Life is not a constant storm
Some love is just pure and warm
Like a sail that helps you
Breeze through life
When there are no storms in sight
It’s not demanding, not requiring

Just steady and warm

I believe I was slipping away
But you sensed I was in danger
And began to inquire of me
Your call was like a lifeline
That justified my existence
When I didn’t seem to matter to anyone

Many called you Little Mama
Now I weep like a child
For your love is in the tapestry of me
I am become unraveled because
I’m too late to say how much
You mean to me

God always gives us signs
When we have eyes to see
I sent you a letter along with
Someone else I knew

Her’s came back
With no forwarding address
I feared the worse
But I should have known the time
Had come to take better care of you

might have extended your days

Love is a power that is
Divinely ordained by God
Love is the mission, the high calling
Love can rival death’s threat
Its heat can melt away the destroyer’s grip

Unable to see

For a jewel, a great treasure
Has departed this world
Someone I loved, but more so
Someone who taught me --
What love was

Today Latoya told me
You said I was there
With 3 angels
No one else could see --
In your final hours
Though I had no idea
My prayer brought you near to me

What manner of love is this
Who when even facing death
Would leave me confirmation
That my love was truly felt

I know the Angels rejoice
At your homecoming
A great celebration has ensued
King David would remind us
Though our loss is greatly felt
You can not return to us
Only we can come to you

Your James has waited patiently
But now awaits you eagerly
To step into eternity with him
And the great God that you have
served so faithfully is waiting
to embrace you and welcome you to
your new mansion that Jesus has prepared

Your standard for love
Was God's reflection
