Impossible Wilma and Joni

I often point out the importance of a person who is considered important to another person the importance of the important person encouraging the person who considers them important.

Important truth, more so than you might imagine. Take this for instance:

"My mother taught me very early to believe I could achieve any accomplishment I wanted to. The first was to walk without braces."

This girl learned to walk without braces and went on to win 3 Gold Medals in the 1960 Olympics at age 20. Wilma Rudolph always acknowledged her mother's influence in her life.

As I live and study those who have overcome nearly impossible odds, I see over and again the power of the influence of others. I keep in mind that for every encourager there are myriads of naysayers who are always assuring those who attempt the grand thing that they will never make it. In life we must choose whom we will listen to.

Part of my purpose in these early 2009 letters is to be a voice encouraging you to get over the bumps that have come your way, get your thumb out of your mouth, quit placing blame and start, maybe again, your climb up the mountain of your dreams. As you climb recall the angelic message at the birth of Christ, "For with God nothing shall be impossible."

Most Christians believe the miracle of the Virgin Birth of Christ which along with His resurrection reaches beyond the extreme, teaching that any lesser thing in between is also possible, yet we fail to believe that God really is bigger than our particular problem. I rejoice in the power of God in Wilma's life and her Gold Medals.

I rejoice even more in the thrilling story of Joni Erickson Tada, confined to a wheel life since she was injured in a diving accident at 16. Joni got past all the things that God did NOT do for her when she surrendered to serve Christ in any way HE chose. She still rides about in a wheel chair, writing with her mouth, painting with her mouth, talking on her worldwide radio and TV ministries, and loving her husband. Joni is unable to use her arms or legs. Yet God uses what she has and thus the world is blessed.

It may be that your prayer must mature to the point where you are willing to serve Christ in a way known to Him in order for you to reach the enormous potential in your life as you surrender to His will and way.

Wilma and Joni were encouraged by people who loved them. Love someone and encourage them in the year of our Lord 2009. The IMPOSSIBLE God.
