THE JOURNEY BACK

Jesus broke the chains that had me bound.
If not for Him; I’d be dead in the ground.
I went through life, in some kind of haze.
I experienced dark nights; darker still the days.

Divorce was the demon that loomed over my head.
It struggled hard to kill me; I felt almost dead.
The love of my husband was never actually for real.
I felt dreadfully broken down and unwilling to feel.

Storm clouds were brewing violent tempests in my life.
I tried to be a good mother in the midst of all the strife.
My first-born was lost; so addicted to Satan’s evil drug.
He too struggled against me; rejecting me and my love.

I had grown so depressed; felt so wretched and broken.
With no husband to love me; I had no reason for hopin’.
My friends urged me to look up and pray to the Father.
I listened, I heard them, I just didn’t bother.

Subsequent to deliverance, came all this black rain.
I thought, “How could my Father allow me such pain”?
I was new to salvation; so brand new to Jesus’ light.
Inaccurately I thought; all my days would be bright.

I could no longer tolerate to live that defeat down.
My love’s face was haunting; had to leave town.
A new town was waiting; I just needed to choose.
I left town in haste; I’d lost him; had no more to lose.

Each day I felt empty; my heart lonesome and cold.
I felt numb and abandoned; chilled right to my soul.
The “Dark One” had caught me, lost and unprepared.
In my pain, I didn't remember that Jesus was there.

Although a new creature, bathed in Christ’s blood,
Despair kept approaching, like Noah’s Great Flood.
By myself in my bedroom for the most part I stayed.
Tears were my companion; though THAT day I prayed.

I said desperately to the Lord, “Without him I’ll die”.
Jesus said, “My beloved I’m here. Give my love a try.
Now you are hurting; but this vicious pain won’t last.
You WILL be triumphant; this season of loss shall pass.”

His words brought to mind, the words of my wise mother:
“Don’t marry him, he’ll hurt you; you shall find another”.
I shed many tears of frustration over love that I lost.
I always knew that to marry him, would come at a cost.

I went through life’s activities day in and day out.
My suffering grew enormous and so did my doubt.
I believed in Christ Jesus; to me He was very dear.
Just thought when I prayed, my words stayed right here.

For years my essence lingered raw with despair.
Though I turned back to sin; Jesus remained there.
He was waiting and hoping to sense a slight tug.
Patiently He waited;H knew I'd try His REAL love.

I picked up God’s Word, while anguished one day.
I saw where He said, “My word won’t pass away."
I didn’t grasp that God’s plan right from the start,
Was to raise my spirit, while mending my busted heart!

The words of my Savior filled me with such reliance.
I was ready now to serve Him; I vowed compliance.
Humankind will discard you; even family turn you away.
Jesus won’t fail you; He’s forever with you to stay.

Whatever your pain, sin or your trepidation;
Jesus love covers; no matter your situation.
Man will disillusion you and cause you to feel regret.
God’ love is a mighty one; hasn’t failed me yet!
