I woke up today with all the gimpy parts of me aching and throbbing. I hobbled out of bed and headed for the bottle of anti-inflammatories.

On the way, I remembered something I read last night in a book called "Do One Thing Differently" --- there was a section about changing our focus. The author (Bill Ohanlon) asked the reader to change the way we look at things. NOT to deny what is real and live in la la land, but to get a different vantage point. He had a patient (he is a counselor) that was in a lot of pain. He asked the patient to try this experiment: try focusing on a part of your body that DOES NOT HURT. Not denying the parts that do - acknowledge them, but focus on a part that does not... and then see where that takes you.

I acknowledged: my toe hurts, my heel, my shoulders, my low back, my head aches... yep. they do. That is true and that is real.

I focused on my fingers... I am freely typing and expressing myself. hmm..

my eyelids are fine. Blink blink blink.

My lips work... see, I can smile!

Suddenly, I felt thankful. More is right with me than wrong with me!
