GOD’S PLAN FOR THE FAMILY

Matthew 19:1-12

Husband and wife are the two human pillars upon which the home is built. Though the husband and the wife stand co-equal in the sight of God, being “heirs together of the grace of life” (1Peter 3:7), the man is ordained by God to be the head of the home. The husband is called to submit to God, the wife is to the husband while the children are called to obey their parents.

Plan for the husband: The husband plan not only for himself but also for the physical, spiritual, and temporal needs of the whole family, He teaches, guide, direct, leads, controls, prays and provides for the wife and the family. The Christian husband loves his wife as Christ loves the church. He loves her at all time, totally, sacrificially, not because of what he can get from the wife but because it is God’s ordained order for him to love sacrificially. He never beats or abuses his wife.

Plan for the wife: God expect the wife to recognize and joyfully accept the God ordained headship of the husband. She should be obedient, humble, meek, quiet, diligent and dependable. Both husband and wife should each be an example of godliness, faithfulness, holiness, responsibility, obedience, honesty, contentment, diligence and love to their children.

Provision for the family: God instituted marriage and adequately provided for happiness in the family. He expects the man to leave (though not to abandon) his father and mother and cleave to his wife.

Problems in the family and the ways out: Divorce, remarriage and polygamy are not the will of God. Therefore, problems such as poverty, childlessness, relationship with the in-laws and relatives must not cause disharmony in the family. In fact, God expects the husband to defend the right of the wife at all times, among the children, in-laws, and relatives. Criticism of each other, lack of forgiveness, impatience, strife, malice, malice, nagging and bitterness are not to be allowed in the family. Indeed, God expects the husband and wife to live sanctified life in order to preserve the oneness, unity, harmony, and love in the family. To this end, they are to encourage one another in their Christian journey (Proverb 27:17) and train up their children in the way of the Lord (Proverb22:6).
