So small, so helpless you are.
You look just like a tiny version of your dad.
All at once I was very aware that I did not know the first thing about being a mother.

How could I comfort you?
Your tiny body was in such pain,
Your lip quivered and you pulled your tiny knees up to your chest.

Poor you!
Lord give me wisdom to care for this wee one.
Help me through the sleepless nights that undoubtedly lie ahead.
Guide me to the right doctors when he is sick,
And the right resources for wisdom.

Teach me about your boy, Lord, the one you have loaned to me to raise.

Help me love him just right, so that I honor you.
Help me train his mind to honor you,
And if he goes astray Lord, remind him who he really is.

Lord, I really do not know what I am doing,
But I trust that you will teach me
For I am, and ever shall be,
At your service, Master.
