I watched with approval on that day;
The clothes of a man before me lay.
I had led the man to where he would die;
I stood there waiting for his cry.

His eyes looked up into the sky,
But, he did not ask the question, "Why?"
When at last his life did cease,
I walked away in perfect peace.

It was my job to rid our place
Of those who brought our faith disgrace.
The man, now dead, tried to show,
There was another way for faith to grow.

But I believed to just one God we pray,
And the Law of Moses showed the way.
The believers in Jesus had to know,
From one God alone does love flow.

On the road to Damascus I was bound,
There his believers could be found.
As we neared the city on that day,
A light from heaven blocked my way.

A voice called out, "Saul, O Saul,
I am Jesus give to me your all!
Go to the city, the miles are few,
There you will learn what to do."

To the street called Straight I was led,
And they gently laid me on a bed.
Ananias came in to talk and pray;
Soon the scales on my eyes fell away.

The road of life was one long hill,
But I think at night when I am still,
That the Lord God indeed had made a mark,
As I lay on the ground I saw the light in the dark.

This paraphrase, for each of you I truly pray,
Christ's light will show to you the way.
The poem's words are mostly mine.
But the whole story is found in Acts Nine.
