Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday October 15, 2008

The other day while conversing with a group of friends I commented on the current financial revolution sweeping the global economy and I used two terms that left the younger friends blank. The conversation was about whether or not a true biblical economy exists on earth today. In my not so humble opinion the answer is absolutely no. You would have to look at the Jubilee Feast to understand how the Lord kept the wealth of the nation in the hands of the masses. Of course greed found a way around this fair plan.

Three primary economic systems are the in thing in today's world economy, Socialism, Fascism and Capitalism. The ultimate definition of Socialism is the total nationalization of all business, total control by the government. Fascism means the government owns a significant proportion or 50% of business and thus is the controller of all business. Capitalism means the people accumulate wealth from the industry, frugality and invest their largess in the businesses that seem solid and will use their hard earned, saved money to make even more money. While you are working at something, your invested money is working 24 hours per day on your behalf. Simplistic? Certainly, but on target.

Do you realize that in the last few weeks the world has moved from a Capitalist economic model to a Social/Fascist model? Does it matter to anyone that a Social/Fascist model was the model of The Axis of Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito?

The civilizations of history lie in the dust of their essentially socialist dictatorial economies. Out of this mire rose The United States with a system that history has proved to be better, with one serious flaw. In order for our chosen system to work it had to a have balancing system, which our founding fathers knew to be spiritual. Only the spirit can control the evil in the human heart, which in financial affairs manifests in greed.

Christ taught the principle of using the financial gifts He has given for investment, Matthew 25, and that we will be held accountable in a coming day for how we have used our time, talent and treasure. Christ did not hold to the "hide your money" under the mattress concept, but rather to put money to work, hence a form of Capitalism.

Christ taught that financially successful followers were to help the truly poor and infirm. He, along with the apostles taught that truly successful followers have absolutely no responsibility to those who are willfully indolent, wasteful or just plain lazy. You refuse to apply whatever time, talent or treasure entrusted to you, get used to being hungry. For instance why should those souls who get up early and go to work in say a foundry, have a large part of the fruits of their labor confiscated to supply the needs of a family which wastes their time, talent and treasure in riotous living as did the prodigal? And how about the abandoned children of fathers who live in nice homes, drive new cars, take vacations in foreign lands, why should said father be allowed this life style, while his children are insured by the state/county, funded by others who are forced to pay evermore in payroll taxes? Me thinks if this happens, said deadbeat fathers should at least be making license plates to help cover the cost.

They have gun control in Cuba. They have universal health care in Cuba. So why do they want to come here? Paul Harvey
