The Bible And The Church
It was a a cold and nippy winter day when a man stopped upon his way
He gazed with eyes full of delight a church with welcome sign alight.
In his hands he tightly clutched the treasure given to him and signed with love
A bible given by his mom who now was somewhere up above.
It's pages that were trimmed in gold now grown dim with careful use
It's back was broke and pages loose.

He had been homeless quite awhile but never did he lose his smile
He always had a kindly word or gentle touch and friendly deed
To everyone he found in need.

He walked up to the wooden doors and opened it to slip inside
The warmth he found a welcome change from cold and wind outside
He looked about at faces cold and stares at his clothes so old.
He looked at them with a friendly smile
But his smile was returned with noses high and backs were turned as he walked by.

A usher came with face like stone and told him that he did not belong
His dress improper and he smelled so strong and so he had to get along
A look of sadness crossed his face as he turned now in disgrace.

He stood outside in the cold and listened to voices raised in song
So sweet the sound it stirred his heart and he hated to depart.
He slowly walked on through the snow the beat of his heart growing slow.

When church dismissed they found him lying there in his hand the book of love
given by his mom above.
One page come loose and they read as their hearts suddenly filled with dread
As ye do unto the least of these so ye do unto me.
