"Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge."(Proverbs 23:12)
One of the secrets of a happy and productive life is to have a teachable spirit. Not just a casual attitude toward learning, but a purposeful pursuit of knowledge, a real effort to gain instruction. Part of the success of the Jewish minority in this era is the fact that this proverb has become part of the fabric of Jewish culture. The social and family pressure to achieve academically in the Jewish community is directly responsible for the number of Jewish doctors and lawyers in most locals. Every social and ethnic group should learn from their example and this proverb. Gaining instruction and knowledge will open doors in all of our lives. Is it any surprise that the LORD has given this instruction? It is a mystery why so many people resist this instruction!
