Cast Your Anxiety

I have always quoted 1 Peter 5:7 not really noticing the verses before and after it…until now. 1 Peter 5:6-11 are promises from God, but requires some things on our part that I really overlooked:
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To Him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

This is what I have found:
MY PART:
1. “Humble myself”-willingly come before God and say, “Lord, I need You…”
2. “Cast all my anxiety on Him…”-confess all your hurts, anger and feelings to Him
3. “Be self-controlled and alert.”-do not let anger or your mouth control you;watch for situations that trigger these emotions and events.
4. “Resist him (the devil)”-when being tormented by satan, begin praying out loud, flee the situation or blast some praise music.
5. “Stand firm in the faith”-continue to read your Bible and seek His face.


HIS PART:
1. “That He may lift me up in due time.”-He will lift you up…We don’t know when, but we know He will.
2. “…because He cares for you.”-no matter what, God loves you.
3. “…will Himself restore you.”-after you have suffered a little while, God will restore you.
4. “…make you strong…”-through the situation you will have grown and your roots will be deeper, allowing you to handle the next anxiety better.
5. “…make you…firm…”-You will not be so easily moved or shaken next time.
6. “…make you…steadfast.”-You will rely more on what God’s word says than your feelings.

God’s doesn’t say we won’t have trials, but it does say that He lifts up in due time. It doesn’t say we won’t suffer but that after we have suffered a little while, He will restore us. I have found in my life that when I am restored, it is to a greater level than I was before.

Is there something that you are harboring and choosing not to bring before the Lord? Are you giving satan a foothold by allowing uncontrolled anger and bitterness to become a part of your heart? Are you letting your feelings of unworthiness get the best of you instead of believing what God’s word says about you?
Do your part so God can do His part.

When anxious thoughts prevail,
Take a moment in the day
Cast them on Jesus-
Let Him show you the way.

When trials become too much to bear and
You feel you are sinking fast,
Lay them at His feet-
He will give you peace that lasts.
