"The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished." (Proverbs 16:5)
It is a frightening thing to be "detested" by the Lord. The great difficulty with pride is that it is a blind problem. Generally the proud do not know they are afflicted. What outsiders see as pride, the afflicted see as superior performance, or their special right or position. The arrogance of the proud is an offense against God, and a pain to their fellowman. The affliction of their fellowman is one of the reasons the Lord continually emphasizes the proud's certain punishment. Another proverb says pride goes before the fall. This one says they will not go unpunished. The hope of escape for the proud is to humble themselves. When the proud humble themselves before the Lord, He always receives them. Most of us have been there, done that. Humble is better!
