"She (the adulteress) gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not." (Proverbs 5:6)

Proverbs pulls no punches with matters of life, and sex is part of life. There are two chapters of rather explicit advice about sexual relationships, and this verse comes from the first of those chapters. In this chapter Solomon warns young men about the ways of a sexually promiscuous woman. She "gives no thought to the way of life"--she isn't interested in things of long term value, she only focuses on immediate gratification. She is on the wrong road, heading the wrong way in life, and she doesn’t even know it. This is an old, old story, being lived out even today. How often have you heard a testimony of regret by some woman who has found the Lord after having lived the life of an adulteress? She will affirm that she was definitely on the wrong road in life. We should have compassion on such a person (as Jesus did), and point them to the right way.
