HEAR
By Ronald M. Wheatley Sr.
…”Today, if you will hear His voice:” (Psalm 95:7)
According to the scriptures, “Today” is now, not yesterday, not tomorrow. When the Holy Spirit pierces ones’ heart a decision or choice must be made. Either you will stand up and be numbered as a follower of Christ Jesus or you will remain sitting in your wallow of sin. If you do this choose to accept Jesus as your Savior, you shall have eternal life and life more abundantly. However, if you do not accept Jesus you shall perish and experience damnation and eternal death. Once you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior you shall become baptized with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 10:44) “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.” Those are the people or seeds of the fruit of the Spirit who are benefited to hear the words (water) of God. The Spirit quickens a believer’s heart and he or she knows at that moment the presence of God is indwelling. But if the soil of one’s heart is not good ground the growth and maturity of the fruit of the seed is not fulfilled.
It’s like a houseplant if you water it (word) and nurture the soil the growth is ongoing. Yet if you stop watering just as if you stop hearing the word of God your growth stops. The plant begins to wither away and eventually dies, but if you begin again to water and, the plant is well rooted it will begin to grow again where it left off. Our Spiritual walk will often time reflect how we water. Some water a little bit each day and grows a little bit each day. Some water a lot and can drown or overcome the plant with too much and be able to comprehend all that is obtained. Some may become preoccupied with the cares of the world and forget to water or water but get choked up by the tares or weeds in our soil. Then there are those who water on good ground ongoing without fail. They are those who grow and seed and water and fertilize so others can grow.
Today means right now, God works with action that is constant now, not well “when I get to it”. For me if I am overwhelmed with numerous tasks or desires I wish to accomplish; if I stop and listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit in my heart and commune with God in His word, be it study, listening to tapes or good news radio. It is at that instant (hallelujah) that God begins to reveal and inspire me to see what I could not see being blind and hear what I could not hear being deaf. I recently, thought my boss was angry with me, but thru prayer realized that I was angry with him. Once I confessed this and went to him with forgiveness and respect I found he wasn’t angry at all, to often we contrive thru thoughts of our own the wrong analysis of the situation and contrive our thoughts to the point of domination or lose. But if we stop, pray, listen to the inner voice of God thru His word, then look at the situation, God will give us the power to choose Him and be a blessing to God and others both lost and saved.
