Tale Of The Most Intelligent Man

The day was a Saturday October afternoon in Oklahoma. Pam and her father, a dogcatcher for the City of Prague, Oklahoma flew from Prague, Oklahoma to Norman, Oklahoma to watch the University of Oklahoma football team play the University of Missouri football team in a small private plane. Traveling with Pam and her father were a police officer and a lawyer.

On the return flight, the plane suddenly and without warning developed engine trouble. The pilot, who was also the police officer, did everything he could to keep the plane from crashing but nothing he tried worked. When all else had failed, the policeman suggested everyone take a parachute and jump out of the disabled plane as quickly as possible with one of the four parachutes. However, before taking off, only three parachutes were found in the plane. The lawyer was the first to speak up in the confusion, “I’m a lawyer and lawyers are the most intelligent, productive and useful members of any society in the world. I, therefore, have the right to live among any of you here!” Without another word, he immediately took a parachute and before anyone could say or protest his assumptions jumped out of the disabled plane.

Now with three people left, the police officer/pilot looked at the little girl and her father and said, “Little girl, you’re not even a teen yet. You have your whole life to live. A cute little girl like you needs your dad. So you and your dad take the last two parachutes. Both of your have to hurry because the plane is really going down fast!”

Pam gave the police officer/pilot back one of the parachutes and said, “Don’t worry Mr. Pilot, it’s okay! That lawyer guy, the intelligent guy, the smartest guy in the world just jumped with my backpack! I tried to tell him but he wouldn’t listen to me!”
