Every young man and every young woman, every son and every daughter will one day have to STEP UP 2 GOD’S CALL in their lives. The first thought crossing your mind is, she can’t possibly mean me. I cringe at speeches, I break all the rules, I can’t seem to make it through one church meeting without the urge to mixit. There is nothing outstanding or special about me. Even if talents find me they soon pass me by.


There’s this young man in the bible named Gideon. Things were really not going his way, his parent’s way or his people’s way. When the angel of the Lord found him, he was hiding from the enemy and threshing wheat. I mean, how low can you go. This had to have been the pits.

Do you know how the angel of the Lord greeted him, he told him ‘The Lord is with you Mighty Man of Valor.’ Whoa, that had to have shocked Gideon out of his socks (if they wore socks then) I bet Gideon probably looked behind him to check if the mighty man was behind him. Then to his right and guess what, God sent an angel to Gideon because he was the one, he was the mighty man of valor. He was the one God was looking for and this was his moment.

Gideon was at a humiliating moment in his life, hiding and threshing wheat so that the enemy would not advance against them and rampage their food. Maybe there is one or two of you also feeling really low about your life, humiliated for some mistake you made, hiding from the world because you are too embarrassed to face it. Afraid of tomorrow because yesterday was full of problems and today does not seem brighter.

You feel not important to have been noticed of God. Worse still, you feel God does not even know you exist. Well Gideon had the same questions you did. He couldn’t understand how God could be with him and yet he had lots and lots of trouble. He couldn’t understand how he could be called mighty when he felt afraid. He considered himself weak and his family of no importance or prominence.

He went further to question God as to where are all His miracles which their fathers had told them about: Gideon heard about the great works of God in the past yet he wondered why he did not see the same great works in his day. Gideon thought the problem was with God (now the LORD has forsaken us) - not with him and with the nation of Israel (Gideon’s people) as a whole. In truth, Israel (Gideon’s people) forsook God - God did not forsake Israel.

However Gideon may have felt here, God was summoning him to a great call of destiny. Irrespective what he believed about himself, the questions he asked, the doubt he had and amidst all of this Gideon stood out as a mighty man before God to be used of God.

Gideon could of hardened his heart and not responded to the voice of God. He could of turned away and not stepped up 2 God’s call. Instead he refused to be a prisoner of his past. He chose to trust God and believe that he is able to perform the impossible in his life. Gideon chose to trust God to make him mighty though he felt worthless, unnoticed and afraid. He trusted God to grant him strength to overcome and grace to achieve. Gideon trusted God to turn him into the star he was meant to be. He trusted God to align his footsteps to a future of hope and excellence. He made himself available to be anointed and appointed to his position of greatness and elevation.

When God got a moment of Gideon’s time, Gideon responded and gave God his full attention. He could of just shrugged his shoulders and refused. That would have been the worse mistake he could of made. A mistake that would of cut him of a life of greatness.

Maybe things have not gone how you expected it to. Today is your day and now is your moment to accept the call of God over your life. To live a yielded life to Christ with a surrendered will allows God to bring forth a mighty man or woman of valor from you. Choose this day to live in the image of Christ with robes of righteousness and garments of victory. Every one of you is God’s very own possession and he will never abandon you. He will search you out, find you and call you forth as his instrument.

Let go of the confidence in yourself and develop a new confidence in Christ.
He is the Almighty and everlasting God, and his power and compassion is unlimited. Develop your confidence in Christ and go in the might that God has deposited in you.

Gideon possessed the might of God.

Gideon had the might of the humble, threshing wheat on the winepress floor.
Gideon had the might of the caring, because he cared about the low place of Israel
Gideon had the might of knowledge, because he knew God did great things in the past
Gideon had the might of the spiritually hungry because he wanted to see God to great works again.
Gideon had the might of the teachable, because he listened to what the Angel of the LORD said
Gideon had the might of the weak, and God's strength is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God used this young man Gideon to do mighty exploits in his time that altered his own life and the lives of his people. I believe that God can do the same in your life as well if you would allow him to.

So young man, young woman, step up 2 a life in Christ and possess the might of God.

Prayer for you

Father in the name of Jesus, I release a prophetic word over every young person reading this article that they will arise for the glory of God to be evident in them. I declare that they will carry a priestly anointing where you will bless them, protect them, let your face shine over them, grant them divine favour and peace. Let their lives possess a shalom grace where nothing misses in them, nothing is broken in them and nothing is lacking in them. Align their feet as they step up 2 your perfect will for their lives. Amen
