What I am Learning About….. God’s Justice

For most of my Christian walk, the knowledge that horrible injustices and crimes take place and go unpunished has plagued me. The truth is that God is forgiving, even of those guilty of terrible crimes, if they turn and repent. Humble brokenness and repentance unlocks His divine mercy. But what about those who seem to show no sign of remorse? How can there be any sense of security when it appears that God allows unspeakable things to happen without any justice?

Not long ago, I joined a Beth Moore study on Daniel. It is a wonderful book filled with history, prophesy, visions, and testimony of Christian life under fire. Daniel, whose name means “God has judged” or “God is my judge”, had a vision when he was about 67 years old.

The seventh chapter in Daniel begins by detailing the kingdoms that will arise to power in the future by likening them to animals with features that become remarkably familiar when one studies history. As I read Daniel 7:1-8, it became very clear that God had given Daniel an extremely detailed account of future events, some so far in the future that they haven’t even happened yet! History has shown that God not only knew what was to come but knew it in incredible detail!

It amazes me that Daniel 11 foretells the rise and fall of Alexander the Great and even predicts that his kingdom will not go to his descendents but be divided in four parts by the compass. Indeed, Alexander’s four generals murdered his wife and child then split the kingdom up into four parts. Each took a section of the map. Not detailed enough? Daniel’s vision from God also predicts that a king will try to barter peace by giving his daughter in marriage so that she can work on his behalf. Daniel 11:17…”he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be on his side.” Enter the woman we know as Cleopatra I who was given to Ptolemy V, whom she loved enough to break ties with her father.

Oh, dear one, He sees. God knows all the ebbs and tides of this frustrated mixed up world. He knows the kings and rulers, but He also knows the tiny details of each life. Nothing goes unnoticed nor is anything forgotten. He sees the trouble of His people and is not unmoved by their trials or sorrows. I am not forgotten and neither are you!

Just when justice seems like it will never come, God makes His entrance. (Daniel 7: 9-10) God is introduced by His name, the Ancient of Days. How significant to us! God is the Ancient of Days, The Alpha and Omega (which means beginning and end). He is the one who has been there before time even began. We don’t need to worry that our troubles will be forgotten. Time is but a sigh for Him and each event fresh in Him memory like the day it happened. Our fallible court system takes years, memories grow dim, and judges come and go who have little invested in the verdict. Not so, with God! He was there when it happened, and it is like no time has even passed. It is fresh in His memory.

Not only am I relieved to be remembered but am in awe of the King of Justice. God’s throne was ablaze with judgment, and the books were opened. Every deed has been recorded and the reckoning is here. Evil will be called to account. In verse 21, it says that the saints were overpowered but only until the Ancient of Days came and passed judgment in their favor. God’s judgment is a fearful thing but He is just. Justice will be given to all who have been unfairly treated, abused, or persecuted.

I was most comforted by the verses in Revelation 21:4-5. “and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new”.” New American Standard


Dear one, doesn’t it give cause to rejoice? When the battles here on earth overpower and cause me to despair, I can turn to the end of the Book. It will all come right in the end and that is my focus. I am so comforted when I see horrible things in this world that God knows intimately, He cares enough to bring justice, and He has promised to make all things new.
